History

Since 2010.

Throughout its history, Coboom has learned to evolve its convictions, its business model, its expertise and its ways of working as the world around it changes. That ability to see further, decide with courage and transform early enough still guides what comes next, with a clear ambition: to co-create a more robust world for the next seven generations.

The chapters of our story

  1. A balding man with glasses and a short beard walks away from an office tower — briefcase and papers flying behind him — toward a worktable where a woman types on a laptop, under a rising sun; an orange path links the two.

    2010

An unexpected shock turns an established career into a new entrepreneurial start

In the spring of 2010, Jean-Pierre Dubé is a vice-president at a Japanese multinational. He already has more than twenty years of experience in industry and consulting, with several hundred companies in about ten countries. In May, he loses his job. Out of that difficult period comes Jean-Pierre Dubé Conseil, a firm built around operational excellence and sustainable development.

In 2013, his eldest daughter, Catherine Dubé, joins the firm. The team grows and takes on a makeup that is still distinctive today: half its members come from engineering, the other half from management.

  2. Seven people gather around a circular model cut into quarters — a meeting, a planning board, a handshake, gears — around a young sprout; orange and blue orbits circle it, and each person brings something: a team token, a tablet, a compass.

    2016

The firm realizes that transforming operations means looking at the whole organization

The team sees that operational excellence covers only part of the challenge. Strategy and organizational development join the firm’s expertise. At the same time, the team experiments on itself with new forms of governance — work that will give rise to the Entreprise responsabilisée® (the empowered company model). The change shows in its identity too: the firm steps out from behind its founder’s name, and Jean-Pierre Dubé Conseil becomes JPD Conseil.

  3. Around a table, seven people assemble a long bridge of blue, yellow and orange blocks that spans a small valley and leads to a target; on the right, a circle of silhouettes, a clock and a purse.

    2018

Eight years of evolution give birth to Coboom

By 2018, the team, its expertise and our way of working with clients have changed enough to call for a new identity. JPD Conseil becomes Coboom.

The new name also marks a new way of working with clients. At Coboom, we no longer sell hours. We commit to results.

Co-creation becomes central, and every engagement is carried through until the agreed objectives are met, however many hours it takes. Since then, more than 1,000 engagements have been delivered at a fixed fee, without ever billing a single extra.

We also systematically measure what really matters: our clients’ satisfaction. More than 2,000 evaluations give us an average score of 10 out of 10 for results achieved and the quality of our support.

  4. Three people look at a vast network linking a factory, a city, a wind turbine, solar panels, a forest, a truck, a shop and a river, with a group of residents at the centre; on the right, a man with glasses closes the large blue loop around it all with his hands.

    2021

The metacrisis leads Coboom to rethink how it approaches the future

Discovering the metacrisis, planetary boundaries, the strain on natural and energy resources, and the research on degrowth calls into question the way Coboom had approached sustainable development until then. The firm broadens its reading of economic and socio-ecological issues, paying closer attention to the links between the economy, energy, resources, society and the environment.

This knowledge is gradually built into assessments, foresight exercises, strategic plans and transformation projects, to help clients make more robust choices in the face of the changes ahead.

  5. A woman scans the horizon through a telescope: wind turbines, solar panels, a drone, a satellite and a city appear in the distance; below, five medallions joined by a blue and orange ribbon — an eye over a landscape, a compass, a co-creation scene, gears, a laurel medal.

    2023

Coboom adds foresight to its strategy practice

Foresight, robustness and ecological redirection join Coboom’s areas of expertise. The firm brings into its engagements the economic, energy, geopolitical, demographic, technological and environmental megatrends that have shaped the economy for decades and will profoundly transform it by 2050.

Coboom’s expertise now comes together in an integrated vision:

    • seeing ahead through foresight
    • deciding through strategy
    • transforming through organizational development
    • executing better through operational excellence.

In 2023, this approach earns a Grande Mention at the Prix performance Québec.

  6. A sailboat heads up a rough river between two black swans; on the bank, a passer-by walks away and, in the distance, the village is lit by a low sun.

    2024

Two shocks put Coboom’s robustness to the test

The first is internal. Catherine Dubé leaves Coboom after eleven years with the company, closing an important chapter in its history.

The second is external. Quebec government budget cuts wipe out almost all of the subsidies that helped SMEs hire Coboom. A large majority of Quebec businesses freeze their spending on consulting services, shrinking Coboom’s client base.

The ordeal reinforces a conviction that will become central to its approach: a strategy should not aim for performance alone. It must also enable a business to withstand shocks, adapt and pursue its mission in an unstable environment.

  7. Five people in a meeting — one of them pointing — turn toward a landscape that runs from a factory to a village centre, then to fields, a wind turbine and the river; a network of blue and orange dots radiates above their table.

    2025

Coboom expands its markets and opens a new area of expertise

Coboom returns to mid-sized and large companies, putting its expertise to greater use with clients facing complex challenges. The same year, economic and regional development joins the company’s areas of expertise. Coboom extends its work to municipalities, regional county municipalities (RCMs) and economic development organizations, having seen that the same megatrends transforming businesses also shape local economies and their development choices.

At the same time, Coboom speeds up the integration of artificial intelligence across all its processes, to increase its capacity for analysis, design and client support.

  8. In front of a Montreal house with an outdoor staircase and a bicycle, three generations plant a young tree together, its roots spreading in blue and orange toward villages and a rising sun; below, three medallions — an eye, a compass, a hand sowing seeds.

    2026

Coboom opens a new chapter in its history

In the fall of 2026, Coboom moves into new offices in the heart of Montreal’s Plateau-Mont-Royal and begins expanding into the other Canadian provinces. This new stage marks both a new home base and a new phase of growth.

See. Decide. Transform.

Thirty minutes to see things differently.
